Villa Walauwa Surf House is situated near Weligama Bay, Sri Lanka’s southern tip, a gem destination for surfers and beach lovers. Only 2 hours away from Colombo Airport and no more than one hour from Galle’s Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Most of our guests choose Sri Lanka because it’s a true exotic country with warm waters and offers some of the least crowded and explored waves of the Indian Ocean. The surf in Sri Lanka is very relaxed when compared to Indonesia, making it an ideal surf destination for beginner and intermediate surfers.
Many of our guests travel with their families but do not worry because in Sri Lanka there’s plenty of activities to do such as safaris, fishing, sailing, whale watching, visits to tea and spice plantations, snorkelling and tanning on idyllic sandy beaches.
We can also arrange private yoga and cooking classes at Villa Walauwa Surf House or tours to Galle’s Fort, Sinharaja or Kanneliya rainforests. It’s impossible not to fall in love by Sri Lanka!
This is not a common surf house, it’s more like a luxury hotel & resort that offers high quality comfort, ideal for surf holidays in Sri Lanka.
The word "Walauwa" means traditional house in our own language. This two-bedroom villa was converted from a refurbished house with sea front views. In order to keep its history, the villa was re-designed with a traditional Sri Lankan style equipped with all the modern luxuries. The villa has a contemporary interior design, high quality and fit out furnishings to match a wide range of guests.
Villa Walauwa Surf House offers hotel type facilities such as an outdoors spa, surrounded by an exotic garden, infinity swimming pool, excellent food and concierge services. This is one of the best options in south Sri Lanka; unmatched luxury, style and comfort.
There is a living room facing a large front terrace with superb sea views, a cosy sofa and flat TV. The villa has a fully equipped kitchen.
All our bedrooms have large beds and private bathrooms with all the amenities, as well as a mini bar, offering all the privacy and space you find on a 5-star hotel.
The villa is secluded by a tropical garden with trees and ponds. In addition, the villa also has high speed Internet coverage and Wi-Fi.
Weligama is well known for its sandy beaches, tropical landscapes, relaxed atmosphere, easy going lifestyle and many other characteristics that feature in the "Paradise Destination" label. However, there is one thing that differentiates it from other "Paradise Destinations": its perfect mellow waves that delights any surfer or kite surfer.
Weligama bay is one of the top 10 destinations in Sri Lanka for surfers. Even during peak season, don't expect powerful swells like on Indonesia or Maldives. This is the perfect surf destination for a few days of pure fun with friends and girlfriend / boyfriend surfing, soft and perfect waves. The dream of any beginner or intermediate surfer.
Weligama is a Bay hence offering protection to high swells, ideal for beginners and long boards. The beach is 2 km long and best defined by being a long and shallow beach break, and often times you can have up to 400 meters long waves. Since this is mostly visited by beginners and intermediate surfers the vibe is super laid back and you will not find any sort of localism or experienced surfers taking all your waves!
For kite surfers Weligama Bay can also be very good, but if you’re looking for more challenging wind conditions then, the ideal place to go will be Mirissa where winds have more power along with crystal clear blue waters.
