The Maldives is an unique place in the world. You'll understand it when you cruise the country by boat or by plane. The crystal clear blue and shallow waters, the incredible good weather all year round, beautiful isolated paradise islands. For as long as your surf holidays last, you'll forget about the busy life back home and enjoy each second spent here.
An incredible country made of almost 1.200 islands grouped in different shapes referred to as "Atolls", where each island has it's particularity and most of all... it's different waves!
The country has long been a tourism destination, namely famous for honeymooners, fishing and diving. These days, the country is also quickly becoming one of the best surf destinations in Asia and the best way to surf in the Maldives is by boat.
There are waves of all sizes and shapes mostly over a reef bottom leading to perfection even when the swell is small!
The Maldives is in the middle of the Indian Ocean and gets the same swell that hits Sri Lanka and Indonesia. This is the reason why thousands of surfers from all corners of the world come to enjoy their surf holidays on board of special surf boats, exclusive resorts or surf camps and guest houses.
Being an archipelago with so many islands means that the best way to search for waves is by a surf boat especially between March and October, the best season to surf in the Maldives.
There are all types of accommodations and packs to choose from. You're only one step away to choose the pack which is the most adapted to your travelling and surfing requests. If you find any difficulty or if you need any help or information, don't hesitate in contacting us.
Madivaru is a well-known boat among surfers in the Maldives and has a reputation for having the most competitive prices.
This completely refurbished boat can accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 comfortable cabins (4 twin and 2 double cabins), fully air-conditioned with individual thermostat control and en-suite WC with shower. Each individual cabin in the Madivaru Open Boat, is also well equipped and furnished with fan, porthole, wardrobe and under-bed storage.
This surf boat was locally built and has been completely refurbished recently.
The Maldives have the same surf season that Indonesia, Sri Lanka and all other countries located in the Indian Ocean. So, the best time to surf happens when the south hemisphere winters start producing big swells, normally around July (northern hemisphere summer). Although, the Maldives start already receiving decent swells in March and April, till November.
Actually March and April can be already a really good early season to surf especially in the South Atolls! Incredible waves and no crowds! An unforgettable experience!
Even during the peak season it can not be considered a super powerful surf destination as the swell normally reaches shoulder to head high but offers big chances of barrel and long funny waves! No doubt the perfect trip for intermediate and advanced surfers.
There are hundreds of surf spots in the Maldives, but just a few of them are easily accessible from the resorts. The best way to discover the country is definitely by boat. This way you can have easy access to the best surf spots. Our secondary boat will take you directly to the lineup!
The boat trip is a completely different approach to your surfing session. Forget the big paddles and duck diving to pass the white waters. Prepare yourself for surfing a few times a day at least. In between surf sessions or sometimes when the swell does not show up you will have the chance to fish, snorkel or rest in the sun deck.
The Maldives have 1,192 islands and endless surf breaks, some of them very close to each other, but all of them are located on the outer reefs on the southeast sides of the atolls.
On the Central Atolls and South Atolls you can still experience the feeling of discovery, surfing perfect waves with no crowd in the water. Just you and your friends! On the other hand, Male Atolls can be a bit crowded, especially between June and August.
Our experienced team at Surfinn Travel will recommend the right place for you according to your surfing skills, budget and travel requests. Once you're there, our captain knows exactly where the best waves are. Just trust us and come aboard!
