Madagascar is the world's 4th largest island with almost 5000 kms of coastline! This means a huge potential of finding a lot of quality surf breaks, especially in the southern part of the island washed up by the swells produced in the South Indian Ocean.
Not surprisingly, most of the charted surf breaks are located between Fort-Dauphin (Taolagnaro) and Morombe. This is a remote place not easy nor cheap to get there and has a false reputation of being a sharky area, so this has always kept the crowds away.
Recently, some adventurous surfers, mainly from South Africa, started to explore the region and discovered that it isn't actually that sharky. But most of all, they revealed one of the most uncrowded and potentially epic surf zones on the planet!
Madagascar is still a pristine place with many waves to be discovered! Only recently the surfing world became aware of this secret treasure. Some even call it the “next Mentawai”.
