Just like any other island, each coast offers ideal conditions on different swell and wind directions. The fact of being a relatively small island (just 30 mins shore to shore), makes it easy to find at least one good spot to surf every day.
You can expect great weather, warm water temperatures and great swell all year round. This means water temperature generally between 15-25Cº throughout the year. Although, the best surf season in Madeira starts in late September up till April. It has its peak between November to February when the big winter swells from the North Atlantic hit the islands. Some winter storms occur, producing S winds. Summers are generally flat, with few breaks able to make much of locally generated wind swells from SE-SW.
