Kite surfing in Morocco

Morocco is home to some of the world's most well known kite surfing destinations.
It is also one of the most beautiful and exotic destinations to visit in the world. Situated in the north west tip of the African continent, Morocco has over 3500kms of coastline. With only 14kms of distance from the southern tip of Spain, Morocco is very close to Europe and therefore very accessible. Due to a big range of windy areas it’s a perfect destination for all levels of surfers. Year-round warm weather, reliable winds and a well-developed sports-tourism infrastructure have made Morocco popular with both beginners and expert kite surfers.
The best season for kite surfing in Morocco is from May through October. During these months, the northeasterly trade wind provides wind and waves on the Atlantic coast.

Morocco has hosted the Kitesurfing World Cup numerous times, and both Dakhla and Essaouira often feature on itineraries for professional kite surfing tours.

Essaouira is located on Morocco's southern Atlantic coast and is about a two-hour drive from Marrakech. The three main surf sports are Essaouira's main bay, Moulay Bouzerktoune and the three-mile beach at Sidi Kaouki. All of these locations can get fairly high waves, and conditions are best for intermediate or advanced surfers. Since Essaouira is a prime tourist destination in the region, there are plenty of other things to do besides kite surf.
Unlike Essaouria, Dakhla's entertainment scene is pretty much limited to kite surfing and windsurfing. Surrounded by the sands of the Western Sahara, Dakhla Bay's lagoon is an excellent kite surfing destination for beginning, intermediate and expert surfers.
